Being a fan of productiveness and multitasking for a more efficient work flow, I found that when it comes to get it on on the Mac, Quicksilver is the king. You can look up phone numbers as if you had Address Book open, make the number big text for easy reading (to dial in my case) with just a few keystrokes.
For instance, I have option+command+S to lunch Quicksilver. After that, I start typing the name of the contact I need the number from- let’s call this contact Bruce Wayne just for fun. So, I start typing “Bat” and Quicksilver is smart enough to look into the Address Book Name, Last Name and Nickname fields and gives me the Bruce Wayne contact card info for Mr. Wayne. If you have Address Book linked to your IM application, such as Adium as I do, the contact picture gets updated every time your contacts do so. Keystroke count: hot key combo to launch Quicksilver (1) + “Bat” (3) = 4
So, now you have Bruce Wayne’s contact pic on top of the search results with a little > next to it. You can go ahead and press the right cursor to look for the correct number you want to dial and hit enter… Voilá the desired number is viewed on Large Type for easy reading.
Overall, this is much more faster than looking through my iPhone or opening Address Book, go to the search box and type the name- scrolling down the number list and finding that one number, hovering over the label of the number, click and choose “Large Type” from the drop down menu.
