I have SafariStand installed, just for one tiny detail that Safari lacks: Auto closing the downloads window. I don’t like having unnecessary windows opened. Something I find very time consuming after a download – since the Download window closes- is to go to the Finder, hit Command + Up arrow to open my home folder and navigate to the Downloads folder. For that, there’s a very easy way to do so, opening the folder without leaving safari: a very handy bookmark. To create your own, open a new tab or window in Safari and type:
file:///Users/yourusername/Downloads (yourusername would be the name of your user account)
After hitting return, you can see that the folder opens in the Finder. To make the shortcut, when you type the address, you’ll see that a small icon of the Down that shows up to the left of the address, just where the favicon shows. Drag that small icon into your Bookmarks Bar and name it Downloads. Hope this tip is a time saver for Safari Users!
For Firefox users, when you click on the Downloads link from the Bookmarks Bar, you get an index of the folder, where the folders are browsable and the files are treated as “downloadable” files, just instead of downloading them, Firefox asks you what application do you want to open it with.
For Opera users, the result is the same as in Firefox, the path however changes a bit: file://localhost/Users/yourusername/Downloads
