I love OS X: it has a built in dictionary that it’s smart enough to know when I’m in Spanish or English mode (depending on my keyboard setup) is great, and the fact that it can learn words is even better. For example, I know that Design is correct, the same with Design4Kids. These are not word combinations that Dictionary.app has as correct. You can right click and say “Learn Spelling”, but what happens when you make the app learn the incorrect spelling by mistake?
You could right click again and look for the “Unlearn Spelling”- I couldn’t find it. I think it’s a setup from a older OS or maybe from Snow Leopard. So, I went digging a little deeper.
Solution:
- Quit all running applications.
- Look in youruserfolder/Library/Spelling
- You’ll find a file called en (for English), also if you use Spanish like me you’ll also find es.
- Open the dictionary you want to modify in TextEdit, remove the word
- Save the file when you are done.
- Restart.
Ok, restart is not essential, but I did it anyway! This is the “Learned Spelling” dictionary, so don’t worry about breaking anything 🙂
